I Come From

I come from Raleigh, NC Born and raised

I come from school was a not a choice, miss a day if you wanted to that butt was gone be burning

I come from Chavis Heights, home of the biggest drug dealers and baddest kids

Living there i seen my mother cry for the first time

I was a little girl then i didn't know why

Looking out the window and not once have i not seen a fight

Never seen as many black people in one place so you know people didn't get along

Walking the streets at night is something you couldn't do

Never know who was out to get you

It was a place you had to watch your back

I come from neighbors setting people houses on fire, gossiping about who did this and that

I come from falling asleep to yelling, loud music and screams at night but it wasn't all bad in the hood

I come from block parties, where everybody in the neighborhood came together

Lima beans, corn bread, steak, chicken, corn, chicklins, collard greens, pork chops, macaroni and cheese

Though the food wasn't all you seen and heard,

Happiness, Family, Dancing, Kids Playing, Gamboling, Music, laughter

We all came together as one

I come from a strong but judging family, all them excuses yeah they not trying to hear them

You did what you did cause you wanted to do it

I come from them old school ass whippings, you got beat with anything that was in their reach

I come from "time to get up, the church van gone be here in 1 hour"  grandmas words never changed

You miss church you clean the house

You really think i didn't get off that couch?

She didn't care if you liked it or not, when one roll out we all roll out

I come fromFamily comes first before anything and anybody

 "water flow from the bowl faster then blood"

Funny  how now i truly understand what she meant by that

Friends gone leave you before your family leaves you

I come from middle fingers up to school I'm trying to party

Every weekend, 1 year straight i didn't miss not one

I come from Hanging out in the streets, to staying in the house and going to school 

Thought i was cute smoking and drinking, fighting and skipping school That ended early

I come from "She not ready to go back to school, all she gone do is mess up again"

They right i wasn't, but i am

I'm determined I'm gone make no matter who against my dreams

I come from listening to nothing but gospel

Now in my ears i play Waka, Cheif Keif, Rhianna, J. Cole etc.

The good girl said goodbye a long time ago

But the bad girl no longer exists

I grew up and didnt let where i "came from" be the judge of who i am today

So where i CAME FROM , gone stay in the past,

Where I AM NOW is all that matters.
