A Dolls House Themes And Symbols
Written by Henrik Ibsen, A Dolls House, is a wonderful play that has many themes that go along with it. The one that mostly stood out to me was "If you tell the truth, you dont have to remember anything". I feel that this is a perfect theme for this story because one of the main charachters Nora, Torvalds wife told a lump sum of lies. She lied about a lot of things throughout the story, and she has yet to tell the truth. Once you tell a lie, you have to tell many more just to cover the first lie that you told. When you tell the truth you wont have to come up with a cover up.
Following the theme there also was a couple of symbols from the play A Dolls House but there is one that symbols the whole story. The "songbird" this symbol is for the whole story, but basically it was a symbol for Nora the wife of Torvald. She is the songbird because she dresses up and dances for her husband, and barely leaves her home. A song bird sings in its cage and has a provider which in Nora's case Torvald is her provider. Thats why she is described as a songbird.
