A Dolls House Theme Essay

Exactly how many themes does the play A Dolls House have? Well how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know. there are many themes following his play. Everything that shimmers ain't gold, what goes on in the dark comes to the light and innocence just happen to be three of the many themes.
Everything is now what it seems. Like the saying "Everything that shimmers ain't gold". In my individual opinion I think that the author clearly detailed this theme. Just because a person is happy in front of you, doesn't mean that when they shut their door to their room things are the same. Noras feelings aren't what i expected them to be. She ended up consenting her husband about how she really felt, as she stated "i have had three kids by this stranger". In public or in front of company she was head over heels for this man. Her true colors were shown at the end of the play. So just because she was Happy when you seen her didn't mean her life was perfect.
Now lets get real, what goes on in the dark comes to the light, right or wrong? Right. Some people think that hey can bee able to do their dirty work and no one will find out about it. "I wont get caught as long as i don't tell anyone", yea you would have thought that no one was going to find out. That is the worst mindset to have. Ever lie or wrong doing will soon be bought to the light. If you haven't gotten caught yet, well then you just got lucky. The author explained this theme very well. Nora forged her late fathers signature to borrow money for a trip to save her husbands life. Thinking that no one knew except her Krogstad, Torvalds former employee, found out and ended up black mailing Nora. Krogstad sent a letter to Noras husband a letter stating the truth about what she had done. Nora never planned for her husband to find out about the money that she had borrowed. She was left terrified and didn't know how Torvald would react. Don't do something behind closed doors and you can't suffer the consequences when someone peeps in.
"I strongly dislike this play A Dolls House", that was a lie and in this play many lies were told. Lying is a strong theme and basically speaks for itself. I myself had told lies, but that was when i was  younger. That was only to get myself out of trouble. Not to get me into something that i wouldn't be able to get myself out of. The lies in this story were actually a act of kindness gone wrong, for the most part besides Nora sneaking and eating chocolate, which her husband strongly disliked.
There is a lot that you can learn from this play, but the main points have been made. Don't judge someone because they look perfect, they could tell lies and live a life you couldn't imagine but it will soon come to the light.

A Dolls House Theme2

"Innocence" is another theme from A Dolls House. Nora, Torvalds wife did something illegal but in her perspective she did no wrong. It was to save her husbands life even though if he found out he would be devistated and would probably divorce her and take their kids. She took her chances and borrowed the money, something Torvald absolutely hates, and took him on a trip to better his health. She did the right thing by trying to save his life but everything comes to the light and she should not have did it. Nora just didn't want to loose her  husband and be a widow. I can relate to her decision because if i was in her shoes i would have did the same thing for my husband. If he had made the choice to divorce me after telling him the truth, he would never be able to say i didn't care for him or tried. Nora should not be punished for saving his life.

A Dolls House Themes And Symbols

Written by Henrik Ibsen, A Dolls House, is a wonderful play that has many themes that go along with it. The one that mostly stood out to me was "If you tell the truth, you dont have to remember anything". I feel that this is a perfect theme for this story because one of the main charachters Nora, Torvalds wife told a lump sum of lies. She lied about a lot of things throughout the story, and she has yet to tell the truth. Once you tell a lie, you have to tell many more just to cover the first lie that you told. When you tell the truth you wont have to come up with a cover up.

Following the theme there also was a couple of symbols from the play A Dolls House but there is one that symbols the whole story. The "songbird" this symbol is for the whole story, but basically it was a symbol for Nora the wife of Torvald. She is the songbird because she dresses up and dances for her husband, and barely leaves her home. A song bird sings in its cage and has a provider which in Nora's case Torvald is her provider. Thats why she is described as a songbird.

I Come From

I come from Raleigh, NC Born and raised
I come from school was a not a choice, miss a day if you wanted to that butt was gone be burning
I come from Chavis Heights, home of the biggest drug dealers and baddest kids
Living there i seen my mother cry for the first time
I was a little girl then i didn't know why
Looking out the window and not once have i not seen a fight
Never seen as many black people in one place so you know people didn't get along
Walking the streets at night is something you couldn't do
Never know who was out to get you
It was a place you had to watch your back
I come from neighbors setting people houses on fire, gossiping about who did this and that
I come from falling asleep to yelling, loud music and screams at night but it wasn't all bad in the hood
I come from block parties, where everybody in the neighborhood came together
Lima beans, corn bread, steak, chicken, corn, chicklins, collard greens, pork chops, macaroni and cheese
Though the food wasn't all you seen and heard,
Happiness, Family, Dancing, Kids Playing, Gamboling, Music, laughter
We all came together as one
I come from a strong but judging family, all them excuses yeah they not trying to hear them
You did what you did cause you wanted to do it
I come from them old school ass whippings, you got beat with anything that was in their reach
I come from "time to get up, the church van gone be here in 1 hour"  grandmas words never changed
You miss church you clean the house
You really think i didn't get off that couch?
She didn't care if you liked it or not, when one roll out we all roll out
I come fromFamily comes first before anything and anybody
"water flow from the bowl faster then blood"
Funny  how now i truly understand what she meant by that
Friends gone leave you before your family leaves you
I come from middle fingers up to school I'm trying to party
Every weekend, 1 year straight i didn't miss not one
I come from Hanging out in the streets, to staying in the house and going to school
Thought i was cute smoking and drinking, fighting and skipping school That ended early
I come from "She not ready to go back to school, all she gone do is mess up again"
They right i wasn't, but i am
I'm determined I'm gone make no matter who against my dreams
I come from listening to nothing but gospel
Now in my ears i play Waka, Cheif Keif, Rhianna, J. Cole etc.
The good girl said goodbye a long time ago
But the bad girl no longer exists
I grew up and didnt let where i "came from" be the judge of who i am today
So where i CAME FROM , gone stay in the past,
Where I AM NOW is all that matters.

The Devil and Tom Walker

The Devil and Tom Walker

Tom Walker wasn't exactly what we call a "bum", he turned out to be a greedy and wealthy man.  I know this because the author directly said "Tom Walker loved money as much as he loved life". Yes money is good to have, but I would appreciate life way more than a couple of dollars. Tom Walker doesn't seem to think about his actions when it comes to money. He just goes with the flow, if it turns out bad it turns out bad, if it turns out good then he was successful.
One theme to this story would have to be the lovely saying "money is the root to all evil". Its one thing to have money but totally different to let it take control your life. Following that, "money can't buy you happiness" you can have all the money in the world and be the most depressed at the same time. Enjoying life and making memories with your loved ones is what makes you happy. Tom Walker wasn't really a happy man considering he and his wife only loved money instead of each other. He didn't really care that his wife was brutally murdered finding only her heart. He let money control him and ended up loosing the most precious thing a human being is given, life.

Green Eggs and Ham

The childrens story Green Eggs and Ham has a specific moral. The moral of the story is "you will never know unless you try". I feel the author was trying to tell the readers that by judging something you are always left with assumptions instead of facts. Using the two main characters in the book Sam trys everything in his will to get his un-named friend to try the green eggs and ham. He refused eating it "with a mouse" or "on a train" he even stated "i wouldn't try them anywhere". In the end realizing that they weren't so bad after all he enjoyed eating green eggs and ham. That was a lesson learned and the moral to the story was clear the author taught a valuable lesson kids should learn.
